More than 200 young people recognized with the Leaders of Tomorrow initiative
EDMUNDSTON, June 13, 2018 - The Secrétariat à la jeunesse d’Edmundston has recognized over 200 young leaders as part of their "Leaders of Tomorrow" project. Eight projects in eight schools in the region were represented.
The Secrétariat à la jeunesse d’Edmundstonwas present in the school classrooms of the Madawaska region during the 2017-2018 school year to promote the importance of youth involvement and development of their community by instilling values and demonstrating the benefits of community engagement.
"During my visits to schools, I quickly noticed that many young people stand out with involvement projects that are not known or recognized by the community. We wanted to put these projects forward to recognize the added value they bring, "says Martine Marchand, development officer.
The Leaders of Tomorrow project was launched in the summer of 2017 when the Secretariat's mandate of representation changed from 18 to 35 years old for an audience of 35 years and under. The initiative was, therefore, to meet the youth to see the interest in the Youth Fair as well as tomorrow's Edmundston to look at their priorities and interests. A call to action was sent to the teachers on the social media of the organization. The interest manifested quickly and in large numbers.
"A lot of people bring us ideas for activities we could do with young people, but we wanted to go to the source and learn what they want. At each visit, the students in the class had to give an idea for the Youth Fair or for Edmundston of the future to engage with us in the development of the community. The compilation of more than 3,000 ideas will be done in the summer months, "says Martine Marchand.
The Secrétariat à la jeunesse d’Edmundston aims to bring together young people around projects that will enrich Edmundston's success by supporting youth events in all spheres, increasing youth engagement with organizations in the region, and promoting youth engagement, and entrepreneurship as a career choice for young people with our partners.
